What is “Abalona”?

Abalona Coffee began from a desire to discover the world’s greatest organic coffees, and to hand-roast these unique beans for a group of friends in Topanga Canyon, California.

Borrowed from an old ship name, Abalona is a nod to coffee's maritime past, and a reminder of coffee's journey across the seas to your cup.

Much like the coffee we source is influenced by its origin, so are we. Our signature skyline logo is an ode to the coastside canyons of Topanga, California, the birthplace of Abalona Coffee. This emblem serves as a reminder that no matter where the road takes us, there’s no place like home– and a good cup of coffee.

Our Coffee Origins

A Note from the Founder

I started small batch coffee roasting in my kitchen in Topanga, CA, at first out of curiosity, and then to share with friends and neighbors. Soon demand grew, and I was spending all my free time roasting, and so Abalona Coffee was born!

We now roast (all organic) coffee several days a week on a larger machine, but still remain true to our “small batch” sensibilities. Our friends and neighbors are now all over California.

. We choose only coffees that are produced through sustainable business practices in coffee farming (fair trade, organic, etc.). Over the next few years, we hope to have an even bigger impact through local, regional (and beyond) projects.
